Western New England Falls to Endicott in CCC Semifinals, 19-3

Breen, Miller and Jarvis score for Golden Bears

BEVERLY, Mass. (April 30, 2019) – The fifth-seeded Western New England University women's lacrosse team's season came to an end with a 19-3 loss to top-seeded Endicott College on Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament at Hempstead Stadium.

With the win, the Gulls (13-5) advance to Friday's championship contest to take on Roger Williams, which defeated UNE in the other CCC semifinal matchup on Tuesday. Western New England finishes the 2019 campaign at 10-9.

Top Performers
Western New England received one goal each from senior Kristen Breen (Ellington, Conn.), sophomore Reilly Miller (Goshen, N.Y.) and freshman Hannah Jarvis (Westfield, Mass.). Junior Olivia Truenow (Franklin, Mass.) finished with team-highs in both ground balls (six) and caused turnovers (three).

Endicott turned in a balanced offensive showing with six Gulls posting multi-point efforts. Senior Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) led the way with five points (four goals, one assist), while senior Aleah MacKay (Bedford, N.H.) tallied four points (three goals, one assist) and freshman Morgan Pike (Shapleigh, Maine) registered a hat trick.

Game Review
Junior Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) scored the first two goals of the game for the Gulls and Campbell followed with a pair of her own, the second of which came on a free position shot at the 17:02 mark.

Endicott raced out to a 9-0 lead before Jarvis got the Golden Bears on the board with an assist from freshman Samantha Vitka (Stratford, Conn.) with just under five minutes left in the half. Pike notched two late goals for the Gulls, however, as Endicott led 11-1 at the break.

Miller opened the second half with an unassisted strike for the Golden Bears, but Endicott followed with a 6-0 run to extend the cushion to 15 (17-2). 

Freshman Liz Mazza (East Longmeadow, Mass.) set Breen up for Western New England's final goal with 8:01 left in the contest, before MacKay found the back of the net twice for the Gulls to cap the scoring.

• Western New England sophomore goalie Kaitlyn Marchant (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with 15 saves.
