Women’s Soccer Rallies Past Curry in Regular Season Finale, 2-1

MILTON, Mass. – The Western New England University women's soccer team scored two unanswered second half goals to earn a 2-1, comeback victory over Curry College on Tuesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Katz Field.

Top Performers
Junior Christina Sordi (Bethlehem, Pa.) and freshman Summer Hathaway (Colchester, Vt.) both scored for the Golden Bears, while sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Murphy (Halifax, Mass.) finished with six saves.

Curry junior Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) tallied the Colonels' lone goal in the first half.

Game Review
Randall staked the home team to a 1-0 lead with her 13th goal of the season at the 37:50 mark of the opening frame. Curry led by the same margin at the break.

The Golden Bears nearly tied the contest in the 50th minute, when sophomore Allison Bruehwiler (Old Saybrook, Conn.) struck the crossbar with a shot. Western New England secured the equalizer six minutes later, however, as Sordi scored on a feed from junior Lauren Leblanc (Belchertown, Mass.).

In the 64th minute, the Golden Bears pulled ahead off a corner kick taken by Bruehwiler, as Hathaway notched the go-ahead goal.

Murphy made three saves down the stretch to seal the comeback win for Western New England.

• Western New England held an 18-17 edge in shots, while the Golden Bears and Colonels were even with seven corner kicks apiece.
• Sordi's goal was her second in the last three games.

Up Next
Western New England (8-9-2, 4-3-1 CCC), which finished fourth in the CCC standings, will host fifth-seeded Endicott on Saturday in the CCC Tournament quarterfinals at Suprenant Field. Curry's season comes to a close at 6-12-1 (1-6-1 CCC).
