Women’s Tennis Wins Second Straight CCC Match

WENHAM, Mass. (September 20, 2022) – The Western New England women's tennis team won their second straight CCC match on Tuesday afternoon in their first road match of the season, taking down the Fighting Scots of Gordon College  by a final score of 5-4. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 2-1
  • Gordon College: 0-5

How it Happened:

Western New England would open the match falling in two of three doubles matches, putting themselves behind early. Aliza McLeish and Arriana Hasiuk would drop an 8-1 contest with Annette Kim and Caroline Helmer, while Gabrielle Tirkot and Sydney Shepard would drop an 8-2 match with Gordon's Hannah Hovda and Abbigaul Fournier. WNE would pick up their lone win in doubles action when Dani Martinez and Gianna Arace defeated Allyson Fournier and Amanda Moraes to get Western New England their first win. 

WNE would bounce back in a big way in singles action when Arriana Hasiuk won 6-3, 6-2 on court #2 to even WNE's score with Gordon at 2-2. The Golden Bears also got big wins from Dani Martinez-Duran (6-4, 6-2), Gabrielle Tirkot (6-3, 6-4), and Sydney Shepard (6-1, 6-0) to secure points three, four, and five for the Golden Bears and WNE was able to knock off Gordon College by a final score of 5-4 to take their second straight conference win of the season.

  • Lesley College visits the Volvo Tennis Courts on Tuesday, September 27 at 3:30 pm, a match rescheduled from Monday, September 26. 
  • Gordon College heads to Springfield to meet with Springfield College on Saturday, September 24 at 12:00 pm.
