Women’s Tennis Celebrates Seniors, Defeats Suffolk 6-3

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 6, 2022) -  The Western New England women's tennis team honored their two seniors, Arriana Hasiuk and Aliza McLeish, on Thursday afternoon before hosting the Rams of Suffolk University. The Golden Bears would take down the Rams in CCC play, finishing the match with a 6-3 win from the Volvo Tennis Courts. 

How it Happened:
The Golden Bears opened play on Thursday in doubles action with both seniors, Arriana Hasiuk and Aliza McLeish picking up a victory together by a final score of 8-0 over Suffolk's Caren Urbano and Rachel Hill. WNE went on to take their second victory of the doubles round when Dani Martinez and Gianna Arace bested Suffolk's Barbara Consales and Anastasiya Zakharava by a score of 8-7 (8-6). 

In singles action, Hasiuk would win in a sweep, defeating Barbara Consales 6-0, 6-1. Also winning in singles action for the Golden Bears was Gianna Arace, who picked up a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 win over Alyssa Blades, while both Gabrielle Tirkot and Sydney Shepard would both collect wins to help the Golden Bears defeat Suffolk on Thursday afternoon. Tirkot would come away with a 6-3, 6-4 win, while Shepard crusied to a 6-0, 6-4 win in singles action. 

With the win, Western New England improves to 3-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play while Suffolk drops to 1-5 and 0-3 in conference play.
