WNE Men’s & Women’s Tennis Earn ITA Academic Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 18, 2023) – The Western New England men's and women's tennis teams have earned team and individual awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as announced by the organization this past weekend. 

Western New England men's tennis earned four spots on the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete. In order to be named as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. Sophomore Nick Bayer, Sophomore Brandon Greger, Senior Kevin Sharpe, and First Year Thomas Roche all earned honors from the ITA. WNE women's tennis saw three of their own meet the ITA's qualifications for Women's Tennis Scholar Athletes. Sophomore Dani Martinez, Senior Aliza McLeish, and First Year Sydney Shepard were among those who met the ITA's qualifications for WNE women's tennis. Overall, 1,012 men's student-athletes and 1,204 women's student-athletes were recognized for the award. 

The ITA also named the ITA All-Academic Team, which requires a program to have a grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale) and must be included on the institutional eligibility form. As a team, both the Western New England men's and women's tennis teams qualified for the award.
