Loparco goes 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI
HARTFORD, Conn. (April 24, 2018) – Trinity College opened up a six-run lead through four innings on its way to a 10-6 win over Western New England University on Tuesday evening in non-conference baseball action at Murren Family Field.
Top Performers
• Junior shortstop Alex Loparco (Riverside, Conn.) led the Golden Bears at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI.
• Senior third baseman Jared Rosenblatt (Avon, Conn.) doubled twice and drove in two runs, while junior Aaron Rios (Stratford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
• Junior Tyler Buckley (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) fueled the Bantams, as he went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, three RBI and one run scored out of the leadoff spot in the batting order.
• Senior Carter Snyder (Lemont, Ill.) also drove in three runs, while classmate Christian Orsini (Livingston, N.J.) went 1-for-2 with three walks, two RBI and two runs.
Game Review
Trinity put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning, as Buckley led off with a walk before scoring on a wild pitch, and Orsini drew a bases loaded walk later in the frame.
The Golden Bears answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second, however, as Loparco came through with a two-out, two-run single to tie the contest.
Trinity pulled ahead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third. The Bantams loaded the bases again, and Snyder worked a walk to bring in a run. With the bases still loaded later in the inning, Pierce was awarded home on a Western New England balk. Buckley then capped the big frame with a two-run double to give Trinity a 6-2 advantage.
The home team opened up its largest lead (8-2) on Snyder's two-run single in the fourth. The Golden Bears began to chip away at their deficit with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to close the gap to three (8-5), but a Buckley RBI double in the seventh made it a four-run contest.
Each team scored once in the eighth on RBI singles by Loparco and Orsini, respectively, and Western New England went down in order in the ninth.
Notes
• Eight of Western New England's nine starters recorded at least one hit in the contest.
• Loparco's .398 batting average and 45 hits both lead the Golden Bears.
