Paul Wetmore Named CCC Pitcher of the Week

Hamden, Conn. native struck out seven in complete game, one-hit shutout against Gordon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 30, 2018) –
Junior right-hander Paul Wetmore (Hamden, Conn.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Wetmore earns weekly CCC honors for the first time this season and second time in his career following his dominant performance against Gordon on Saturday.

The junior threw a complete game, one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts as the Golden Bears defeated the Fighting Scots 2-0 at J. Tec White Field in Wenham, Mass. Wetmore retired the side in order three times and didn't surrender a hit over the final six innings.

In nine starts this season, Wetmore is 6-2 with a 2.79 earned run average and 54 strikeouts in 51.2 innings on the mound.

Western New England (26-11, 11-5 CCC) hosts Babson in its regular season finale at Trelease Park on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., before opening the CCC Tournament later this week.
