Baseball Splits with Nichols on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2021) – The Western New England University baseball team split their senior day doubleheader with Nichols in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Sunday afternoon at Trelease Park.

Game 1: Nichols 6, Western New England 2
Senior Tyler LaFreniere had two doubles for the Golden Bears.

Christian Naccari hit a triple and a home run for the Bison. Brennan Hyde, Ben Jerome, and Victor Valentin each had two hits.

After the Bison went up 3-0, the Golden Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Joe Webber hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Western New grabbed another one in the next inning when senior Sebastian Grignano hit a sacrifice fly to right field. 

Game 2: Western New England 8, Nichols 4
Junior Ben Harrison, sophomore EJ Dudley, and first-years Aaron Cole and Henry Schwoerer each had two hits for the Golden Bears, while Cole had three RBI's. Senior Kevin Hummer pitched seven innings and threw three strikeouts.

Hyde had three hits for the Bison while Valentin had two.

The Bison jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the fourth. Western New England chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Webber and Harrison both scored.

The Golden Bears took advantage of a bases loaded opportunity in the sixth when Cole hit a three-run double to take a 5-4 lead. When Western New England loaded the bases again, they scored on back-to-back walks to extend the score to 7-4. Dudley hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make it 8-4.
