Baseball Bounces Back with Two Wins over Curry

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 23, 2021) – The Western New England University baseball team swept Curry in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Trelease Park.

Game 1: Western New England 8, Curry 7 (7 innings)
Junior Ben Harrison went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI while sophomore Vincent Caccavale had two hits with one RBI.

Jared Keller had three hits for the Colonels while Jason Leonard and Joan Peralta each had a double.

The Colonels jumped out to a 2-0 lead before sophomore Jake Romano got the Golden Bears on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. Western New England scored seven runs over the course of the third and fourth innings to go up 8-3. Curry chipped away at the lead, cutting it to a one run game in the seventh, but the Golden Bears pitching held on for the win.
 

Game 2: Western New England 6, Curry 5
Harrison went 2-for-4 at the plate in game two with one double while Romano had a triple. Senior Kevin Hummer pitched 8.1 innings allowing just two runs with seven strikeouts.

Peralta had three hits for Curry while Dylan Ketterer and Leonard each had two.

Romano hit an RBI triple in the second to give Western New England a 1-0 lead. Romano scored later in the inning to push it to 2-0 and then hit a sacrifice fly in the third to extend the lead to three. The Golden Bears pushed the lead to 6-1. The Colonels clawed their way back in the ninth, but only got within one.
