Golden Bears Ranked Sixth in Final New England DIII Football Poll

Western New England defeated Nichols 55-14 in regular season finale on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 13, 2017) –
After rolling to a 55-14 victory over Nichols College in its regular season finale on Saturday, Western New England University has moved up one spot to No. 6 in the final Grinold Chapter New England Division III Football Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon. 

The Golden Bears (8-2, 5-0 CCC Football), who captured their third consecutive conference title on November 4 with their 42-28 triumph at Curry College, will be on the road this Saturday at No. 5/7 Delaware Valley University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Springfield College, which completed a 10-0 regular season on Saturday, held on to the top spot in the poll for the eighth consecutive week with 14 of a possible 15 first place votes and 149 points. Plymouth State received the final first place tally, finishing second with 126 points, while Husson (107), Trinity (98) and Framingham State (92) rounded out the top five. Western New England's 91 points were good for sixth in the poll, while WPI (50), Curry (43), Amherst (39) and Middlebury (27) held the final four spots.

The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season. 

A 15-member panel representing all five New England Division III playing conferences will serve as voters in this year's poll, and rankings will be released each Monday afternoon through November 13th.
