DeLima records 12th goal of the season in loss
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 21, 2017) – The Western New England University field hockey team fell to Endicott College, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.
Prior to the start of the contest, Western New England honored its 12 seniors, Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.), Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.), Jennifer Catuccio (Southbury, Conn.), Brianna Novaris (Plaistow, N.H.), Samantha Krumpholz (Florence, Mass.), Amber Meehan (Orange, Mass.), Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.), Hillary Naranjo-Mejia (Lowell, Mass.), Jenna Katsock (North Babylon, N.Y.), Allison Jackson (Mahopac, N.Y.), Lauren Palmateer (Coxsackie, N.Y.) and Dominique Corveddu (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) for their contributions to the field hockey program.
Top Performers
• DeLima scored Western New England's lone goal late in regulation on a feed from Jackson.
• Junior forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) led the Gulls with two goals, while senior Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) recorded a goal and an assist.
• Endicott freshman goalie Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) made seven saves on the eight shots that she faced.
Match Review
• Senior Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) got the visitors on the board just under ten minutes into the contest with a penalty stroke goal.
• The Gulls led 2-0 at the break as Cogliano scored with 2:52 remaining in the opening period.
• Hirtle set up senior Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) at the 48:58 mark to give the Gulls a 3-0 advantage, before scoring herself 2:18 later.
• Cogliano tallied her second goal of the contest shortly after, before Western New England broke through on DeLima's 12th goal of the season with 5:24 left in regulation.
