Early Offense Lifts Wentworth to 6-1 Win over Western New England

Frati nets first goal as a Golden Bear

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 16, 2018) —The Western New England University ice hockey team fell to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 6-1, on Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Olympia Ice Center.

Top Performers
Sophomore forward Anthony Frati (Churchville, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Golden Bears off a feed from senior defenseman Eddie Rogers (St. Louis, Mo.).

The Leopards scored five goals in the contest. Both Nate Chase (Planfield, Ill.) and Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) collected a pair of goals. while sophomore wing Brendan Lloyd (Merrick, N.Y.) also contributed a goal. Junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) posted a three-point effort with a goal and two assists. 

Game Review
In the first period, Wentworth jumped out to a hot start with a goal from Tracey off a feed from Gorodetsky just over a minute into the contest. Then, halfway through the period Tracey scored again to make it 2-0. The Leopards finished off the period with a Nate Chase goal to increase their lead to 3-0.

At the 10:44 mark, Lloyd continued the offense in the second period for Wentworth by capitalizing on a power play. Then at 14:54, Chase scored his second goal of the game off a rebound from Gorodetsky to push the Wentworth lead to 5-0.

For the Golden Bears, senior Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) left the ice after registering 14 saves on 19 shots. Junior Baylee Johns (Woodstock, Conn.) finished the game with 15 saves on 19 shots.

The Golden Bears would respond to the Wentworth attack early in the third period when Rogers connected with Frati from the right side of the net, making the margin 5-1.

Western New England tried to close the deficit by taking eight shots in the third, but couldn't draw closer.

Wentworth scored one more goal as time expired courtesy of Gorodetsky to cap off the victory for the Leopards.

• Western New England won the faceoff battle, 34-23. 
• Wentworth outshot the Golden Bears, 39-26.
