Greg Poole steps down as Western New England College women's volleyball coach

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.Greg Poole has resigned as the women’s volleyball coach at Western New England College to take a similar position at Western Connecticut State University.

Poole compiled a 136-114 record (54.4%) in nine seasons as the head coach of the Golden Bears. He led his teams to three straight 20-win seasons from 2002-04 and directed his squad to a 16-15 mark this past fall. His squads also advanced to the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament the last six years.

“The decision to leave Western New England College wasn’t an easy one,” said Poole who also served as the school’s Director of Intramurals. “I had an incredible time here and the relationships that I developed made me realize how very lucky I was to have landed a job that I loved coming to every day. The hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do was sit down and break the news to my players. Thankfully they were wonderful and supportive.”

Western New England College athletics director Mike Theulen stated, “Greg did a fantastic job in establishing our women’s volleyball program as one of the best in the conference. We’re going to miss his enthusiasm and leadership, but wish him the very best at Western Connecticut.”

Poole, a native of Fairport, New York, is a 1996 graduate of Springfield College where he was a member of the men’s volleyball team.
