Brianna Roath Surpasses 1000 Career Digs in Western New England’s 3-0 Loss at Salve Regina

Senior tallies 19 digs in setback to streaking Seahawks

NEWPORT, R.I. (October 18, 2017) –
Senior libero Brianna Roath (Jackson, N.J.) surpassed the 1000 dig mark for her career in Western New England University's 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-14) loss to Salve Regina University on Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Rodgers Recreation Center. 

Top Performers
• Senior outside hitter Emmaline Chiodini (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Golden Bears with a team-high seven kills on a .263 attack percentage.  
• Roath tallied a team-high 19 digs to reach the career milestone, while freshman setter Jenna McCormack (Nashua, N.H.) handed out 11 assists.

• Salve Regina junior Cassidy Trabilcy (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded a match-high 13 kills, six digs, two assists, and assisted on three blocks.
• Senior Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) finished with a match-best 27 assists while chipping in 12 digs, two kills, and two aces.

Match Review
• The Seahawks raced out to a 14-2 lead in the opening set en route to a 25-12 triumph.
• Western New England led 8-6 in the second set following a kill by senior outside hitter Sam Heffer (Bethpage, N.Y.), but Salve Regina answered with an 11-2 run to claim a 17-10 advantage. The Golden Bears were unable to recover as the Seahawks took a 2-0 lead in the match.
• The home team took control with a similar run in the third frame, reeling off eight straight points midway through the set to open up a 20-11 lead. Salve Regina would go on to complete the sweep for their seventh consecutive victory.

Notes
• Roath recorded 170 digs as a sophomore in 2015, 432 as a junior last fall, and she has tallied 405 so far this season.
• McCormack has finished with 10+ assists in each of her last three appearances.
