No. 11 Johnson & Wales Downs Western New England, 3-0

Heffer & Chiodini record six kills each for Golden Bears

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 26, 2017) – The Western New England University volleyball team fell to No. 11 nationally ranked Johnson & Wales University, 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-12), on Thursday evening in non-conference action at the Wildcat Center.

Top Performers
• Senior outside hitters Emmaline Chiodini (St. Louis, Mo.) and Sam Heffer (Bethpage, N.Y.) led the Golden Bears with six kills each.
• Senior libero Brianna Roath (Jackson, N.J.) recorded a team-high 13 digs, while freshman setter Jenna McCormack (Nashua, N.H.) tallied 11 assists.

• Sophomore middle blocker Kate Walker (Oakland, Calif.) fueled the Johnson & Wales offense, hitting .722 with a match-high 14 kills.
• Sophomore setter Brylee Frank (Palm City, Fla.) finished with 33 assists and seven digs.

Match Review
• Western New England held an early 3-2 lead in the first set, before the Wildcats used a 9-2 run to claim an 11-4 advantage. The Golden Bears were unable to pull closer than five the rest of the way as Johnson & Wales won the opening set.
• Trailing 20-6 in the second frame, Western New England utilized a 7-1 run with three kills from Heffer to cut its deficit to eight (21-13). The earlier 14-point deficit proved to be too much to overcome, however, as Johnson & Wales took a 2-0 lead in the match with their 25-17 triumph.
• The Golden Bears stayed within striking distance early in the third set, as they trailed by just three (13-10) following a kill by Chiodini. The Wildcats took control from there, winning the next five points and 12 of the final 14 overall to complete the sweep.

Notes
• Johnson & Wales hit .410 for the match, while the Golden Bears posted a .080 attack percentage.
• Junior outside hitter Jenna Ferguson (Ellington, Conn.) contributed five kills.

Both teams wrap up their regular season schedules with tri-matches on Saturday, as Western New England (14-13) returns home to host Curry College (11 a.m.) and Keene State College (3 p.m.), while Johnson & Wales (27-0) travels to Newton, Mass. to face Saint Joseph's of Maine (5 p.m.) and Mount Ida (7 p.m.).
