Golden Bears Fall to Wentworth in CCC Quarterfinals, 3-2

Chiodini posts tenth double-double of the season (11 kills, 14 digs) Sibiskie tallies career-high 27 digs.

BOSTON, Mass. (October 31, 2017) – The fourth-seeded Wentworth Institute of Technology volleyball team outlasted fifth-seeded Western New England University, 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 25-15, 17-25, 15-4), in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Tuesday night at Tansey Gymnasium. 

With the win, Wentworth (25-4) advances to Thursday's semifinal round to take on top-seeded Roger Williams, which defeated Curry 3-0 in another quarterfinal on Tuesday. Western New England's season comes to a close at 16-14.

Top Performers
• Chiodini led the Golden Bears with 11 kills, 14 digs and three blocks en route to her tenth double-double of the season.
• Sophomore setter Caitlyn Sibiskie (Rockfall, Conn.) recorded 39 assists and a career-high 27 digs to go with two block assists.
• Senior libero Brianna Roath (Jackson, N.J.) finished with 30 digs for Western New England.
• Sophomore middle blocker Cassandra Holmes (Ellington, Conn.) chipped in with nine kills and four blocks. 

• Sophomores Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) and Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) both posted double-doubles for Wentworth, as Rogoz tallied a team-high 16 kills along with 17 digs and seven blocks, while Quick compiled ten kills and a team-best 25 digs.

Match Review
• Western New England got off to a fast start in the opening set, as the Golden Bears led 5-1 and 9-4 early in the frame. After an 8-0 Wentworth run later in the set saw the Leopards pull ahead (18-15), Western New England used a 5-0 run to regain a 20-18 edge, before Wentworth won the next two points to pull even for the final time. A kill by senior outside hitter Alona Korberg (Fair Lawn, N.J.) sparked another 5-0 run as the Golden Bears claimed the first set.
• With the second set tied at 17, a kill by Quick ignited a crucial 7-0 run that led to a 25-19 Wentworth triumph.
• The Leopards used another strong performance late in the third frame to claim a 2-1 lead in the match. Holding a 19-15 advantage, Wentworth won the final six points of the set with the help of two service aces from junior libero Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.).
• Needing a fourth set win to stay alive, Western New England established an early 4-1 lead and never looked back. The Golden Bears eventually extended their cushion to five (15-10) on a kill by Chiodini, before going on to claim a 25-17 triumph.
• Wentworth started strong in the decisive fifth frame, winning the first three points before a kill by junior Jenna Ferguson (Ellington, Conn.) got the Golden Bears on the board. The Leopards led 8-2 when the teams switched sides, and went on to post a 15-4 win.

• Western New England hit .063 for the match, while Wentworth posted a .120 hitting percentage.
• Sibiskie's 27 digs are eight more than her previous career-high of 19, which she set against Roger Williams on October 4.
