Field Hockey Powers Past Westfield State, 4-0

Clark leads Golden Bears with two goals and two assists

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 16, 2019) – Senior forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) had a hand in all four Western New England goals as the Golden Bears posted a 4-0 shutout victory over Westfield State University on Monday night in non-conference action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
Clark powered the Western New England offense with two goals and two assists, while sophomores Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.) and Maggie Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.) also scored for the Golden Bears.

Freshman goalkeeper Lexie Hemstock (Cheshire, Conn.) made three saves in 45 minutes of action.

Game Review
Western New England opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the contest, when Gallagher fired a high shot into the back of the cage after receiving a pass from Clark in the corner.

The Golden Bears, who outshot the Owls 10-1 in the first half, held a 1-0 lead at the break.

Western New England doubled its advantage early in the third quarter, as Clark took a feed from senior Jessica Clifford (Auburn, Mass.) and snuck a shot just inside the left post. Less than three minutes later, Klesyk tapped home an attempt from Clark to make it 3-0. 

Leading by the same margin after three quarters, the Golden Bears capped the scoring with 6:29 to play when Clark poked the ball out from under Westfield State junior goalkeeper Katie Vamosi (Easton, Mass.) and into the cage.
