Endicott Overcomes Early Deficit to Claim 4-1 Win over Field Hockey

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 4, 2019) – The Endicott College field hockey team scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 win over Western New England University on Friday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
Western New England's lone goal was scored by sophomore midfielder Ali Martin (South Windsor, Conn.) with an assist from senior forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.).

For the Gulls, sophomore midfielder Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.) paced the offense with two goals and one assist.

Game Review
Western New England opened the scoring with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter on a penalty corner play. Clark sent a pass to Martin at the top of the arc, where she fired a shot past Endicott junior Taylor Ferrin (Danvers, Mass.).

In the final seconds of the first period, the Gulls tied the contest as Poulin knocked home a loose ball in front of the cage.

Endicott then pulled ahead early in the second quarter, when Poulin got past several WNE defenders and sent a pass across the goal to sophomore Addi Williams (Pittsfield, Maine), who redirected the ball into the net.

The Gulls, who led by the same score at the break, tacked on a pair of goals in the third quarter and went on to post a 4-1 win.

• Endicott outshot Western New England 18-10 and held a 13-10 edge in penalty corners.
• Martin's goal is her first this season and second of her career.
