Field Hockey Tops Gordon 4-0 for First CCC Win

WENHAM, Mass. (September 24, 2019) – The Western New England University field hockey team picked up its first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Golden Bears defeated Gordon College 4-0 at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

Top Performers
Senior forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) fueled the Western New England offense with two goals and one assist. Sophomores Maggie Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.) and Ali Larochelle (New Boston, N.H.) also scored for the Golden Bears, while freshman goalkeeper Lexie Hemstock (Cheshire, Conn.) made seven saves in 45 minutes of action.

Game Review
After a scoreless opening period, Clark got the Golden Bears on the board with an unassisted goal just under seven minutes into the into the second period. Western New England went into the break leading 1-0.

At the 36:34 mark, Clark set up Larochelle to double the Golden Bears' advantage. Less than three minutes later, Gallagher scored on a feed from senior Jessica Clifford (Auburn, Mass.) to make it 3-0.

Western New England tacked on one final goal in the fourth quarter (51:33) as Clark tallied her second of the game with an assist from sophomore Ali Martin (South Windsor, Conn.).

Notes
• Western New England outshot Gordon 12-9, while the Fighting Scots held a 7-5 edge in penalty corners.
• Clark increased her team-leading point total to 19, which ranks fourth in the CCC.

Western New England (4-3, 1-2 CCC) will be back on the road Thursday at Mount Holyoke, while Gordon (2-5, 0-2 CCC) hosts Nichols on Friday.
