Field Hockey Blanked by Salve Regina, 2-0

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (September 21, 2019) – The Western New England University field hockey team was held scoreless in a 2-0 loss to Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Gaudet Field.

Top Performers
Sophomore forward Eliza Timms (Agawam, Mass.) scored both of Salve Regina's goals, while freshman goalkeeper Casey Febus (Souderton, Pa.) posted a six-save shutout.

Western New England junior Haley Daigneault (Longmeadow, Mass.) accounted for three of Western New England's six shots on target.

Freshman goalkeeper Lexie Hemstock (Cheshire, Conn.) turned away six of the seven shots that she faced.

Game Review
After a scoreless opening period, the Seahawks struck first with just 1:52 to play before halftime when Timms redirected a rebound into the cage following a shot by sophomore Grace Parker (Simsbury, Conn.).

Neither team scored in the third quarter, and Salve Regina added an insurance goal on an empty netter off the stick of Timms in the final minute of regulation.

Notes
• Western New England was outshot 12-7, but the Golden Bears held an 8-5 edge in penalty corners.
• Hemstock has recorded 5+ saves in four of six games this season.
