Late Comeback Lifts Gordon to 3-2 Win over Field Hockey

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 16, 2019) – The Gordon College field hockey team scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation and went on to claim a 3-2, overtime victory over Western New England University on Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
Senior Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Emily Campbell (Goffstown, N.H.) both scored for the Golden Bears, while junior Haley Daigneault (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.) recorded assists.

Gordon's offense was led by junior Natalie Adamez (Westminster, Md.) and sophomore Cara Goudie (Wenham, Mass.). Goudie tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, while Adamez scored and dished out two assists.

Game Review
Adamez got the visitors on the board just 2:42 into the contest, when she won possession from a Golden Bear defender, spun, and slipped a shot past Western New England freshman goalie Lexie Hemstock (Cheshire, Conn.).

Less than three minutes later, the Golden Bears tied the contest as Clark scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season on a feed from Klesyk.

The score remained tied at 1-1 for the rest of the half and the first nine minutes of the second half, before Western New England took its first lead of the contest. Freshman Abby Burns (Hooksett, N.H.) sent a long pass towards the front of the Gordon net, where Daigneault controlled the ball and placed a shot between the legs of Gordon senior goalie Julia Altman (Hopkinton, Mass.). With a Fighting Scots defender making a late effort to keep the ball from crossing the goal line, Campbell poked it in to put the Golden Bears ahead.

Still trailing in the final minute of regulation, Gordon was able to tie the game following a penalty corner, as Adamez drew several WNE defenders before finding an open Goudie, who fired a shot past Hemstock and into the net.

Another penalty corner play early in overtime lifted the Fighting Scots to the win. Goudie received the ball at the top of the arc and found Adamez, who quickly sent a pass back to Goudie. Goudie found the back of the net for the second time, completing Gordon's comeback.

Notes
• Western New England outshot Gordon 21-6 and held an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.
• Clark is currently tied for fifth in program history for points in a single season with 35.
