Golden Bears Edged by Worcester State at Lusitano Stadium, 1-0

LUDLOW, Mass. (October 17, 2018) - The Western New England University men's soccer team was bested by Worcester State University 1-0 on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the historic Lusitano Stadium.

Top Performers
The Golden Bears held an aggressive offense approach with 17 shots and seven on target. Senior Josh Loomis (Jefferson, N.J.), junior Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Joseph Fortuna (Burlington, Conn.) all had three shots.

In net, junior Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) had three shots sent his way and he saved two.

For the Lancers, freshman Cyrus Raines (Belchertown, Mass.) collected the lone goal of the night off a Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) corner kick.

Game Review

The Golden Bears opened up the first half with control of the game. The home team took 9 shots in the first half, but saw nothing hit the back of the net.

Lancer keeper Henri Guillmette (Franklin, Mass.) collected all three saves on net during the opening 45 minutes of play. After a tightly contested first half, the score was still locked at 0-0.

At the 63:50 mark, Raines broke the tie courtesy of a feed from Brasil. Brasil pushed in a corner kick that Raines headed past Husted.

For the remainder of the period, the Golden Bears would play from behind. With shots coming from Fortuna and Loomis in the final minutes, Worcester State's second half goalkeeper Abdulrazak Frederick (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made the saves for the Lancers, sealing the shut-out victory.
