Western New England Blanks Roger Williams in Regular Season Finale, 3-0

Golden Bears secure home game for Saturday's CCC Tournament quarterfinal contest

BRISTOL, R.I. (October 23, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team secured hosting rights for the opening round of the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament with a 3-0 shutout victory over Roger Williams University on Tuesday afternoon at Bayside Field.

Top Performers
Senior Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and junior Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) both scored for the Golden Bears, while senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) registered a four-save shutout.

Juniors Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.) and Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.) accounted for 11 of Western New England's 20 shots as Prindle recorded a team-high six and Claflin added five.

Game Review
Western New England benefitted from a Roger Williams miscue in the 19^th minute as an own goal by the Hawks staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 advantage.

Western New England added to its lead in the 60^th minute, when Liccardi found the top right corner of the net with a shot from just inside the box.

With one minute remaining in regulation, the Golden Bears tacked on one final goal as sophomore Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) sent a pass to Brown, who chipped a shot over Roger Williams junior goalkeeper Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) to cap the scoring in the contest.

• Western New England outshot Roger Williams 20-14, but the Hawks held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
• Brewer's shutout marks his second consecutive clean sheet, fourth this season and ninth of his career.
