SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 20, 2018) -  The Western New England University men's soccer team took home a convincing 5-0 win over the University New England on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Prior to the start of the game, seniors Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.), Brendan Siegel (Liberty, N.Y.), Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), and Josh Loomis (Jefferson, N.J.) were recognized alongside their families for their dedication to the Golden Bear men's soccer program over the past four years.

Western New England received offense from Liccardi, junior Dante Cancellaro (Watertown, Conn.), and sophomore Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.).

Brewer even recorded a goal for the Golden Bears off a penalty shot late in the contest and also recorded four saves in the shutout.

Game Review
The Golden Bears struck first in the action when junior Ty Champagne (Watertown, Conn.) set up Liccardi on a sharp pass in front of the box to give Western New England a 1-0 lead 7:25 into the contest.

At the 40:58 mark, Cancellaro blasted a shot past Shearon thanks to an assist from junior Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.) to push the score to 2-0 for the Golden Bears.

For the third unanswered goal of the half, Remillard corralled a deflection and slid it to the lower left side of the net for the goal with less than two minutes remaining before intermission.

At the 60:38 mark, a foul was called in the box and the Golden Bears elected for Brewer to take the penalty kick, which he converted to add to the dominant lead.

With 12 minutes remaining, everything was going right for the Golden Bears as Remillard crossed into the box and the Nor'easters deflected the ball into their own net, giving Western New England a 5-0 advantage.

The Golden Bears controlled the last minutes of the period and sealed the shutout victory.
