Western New England Earns 9-0 Victory over Wentworth
Golden Bears improve to 2-3 in CCC action
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 28, 2018) – The Western New England University women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
In doubles play, Western New England's top duo of sophomore Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) earned an 8-2 victory over Ali Sollecito and Ellen Butts.
Senior Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Kyra Palumbo (Albany, N.Y.) teamed up for an 8-2 win over Hannah Erickson and Olivia DeLuca at No. 2, while junior Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.) defeated Cici Deakin and Beverly LaChapelle 8-0 in the third doubles spot.
Schrader was also victorious in singles action with her 6-1, 6-1 result over Sollecito at No. 1. Petra Martinelli bested Butts 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2, and Cote topped DeLuca 6-0, 6-3 in the third spot.
In the final three singles matchups, Bauer picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over LaChapelle, while Janet Martinelli and Palumbo both cruised to 6-0 triumphs over Deakin and Erickson, respectively.

Both teams will be right back in action tomorrow, as Western New England (2-4, 2-3 CCC) travels to Nichols and Wentworth (0-8, 0-4 CCC) takes on Salve Regina.
