Western New England Inducts 25 Student-Athletes Into Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 7, 2017) – Western New England University inducted 25 new members into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society last Friday night during a ceremony at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass.
One of the signature events on the Western New England athletics calendar each year, the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society recognizes college students that receive a varsity letter and display leadership while maintaining a 3.4 or higher grade point average through their junior and/or senior years. Additionally, candidates must have endorsement from their head coach and be of good moral character.

The National College Athlete Honor Society was founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., on May 17, 1996, as a student-athlete honor society for the recognition of high academic achievers and sport letter winners at the collegiate level. Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor those collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition.
Prior to the start of the Chi Alpha Sigma inductions, Western New England presented men's soccer freshman Arcel Kabongo-Ngoy (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and women's cross country sophomore Kaitlin Armstrong (Bolton, Conn.) with the Dean Richard DiRuzza Emerging Leadership Awards. These awards recognize one male and one female student-athlete who best represent the ideals of an emerging leader within the Department of Athletics and beyond. This award is given to a freshman or sophomore who display accountability, awareness, honesty, optimism and inspiration while they take steps to become stronger leaders while positively impacting those around them.
