Golden Bears Fall to Connecticut College, 88-61

Gelineau leads Western New England with 19 points in his return to action

NEW LONDON, Conn. (December 8, 2016) – Connecticut College shot 54.5% from the field and held a 49-24 rebounding advantage in an 88-61 win over Western New England University this evening in non-conference men's basketball action at the Charles B. Luce Field House.  

Top Performers
• Senior guard Mike Gelineau (Waltham, Mass.) led the Golden Bears with a team-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, in 14 minutes off the bench.
• Senior forward Daniel Silva (Seekonk, Mass.) recorded eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

• Sophomore forward David Labossiere (Stoneham, Mass.) paced the Camels with a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.  

Game Review
• Labossiere scored the first four points of the game as Connecticut College claimed an early 8-2 lead. Later in the half, the sophomore knocked down consecutive three-pointers to give the Camels a 36-18 advantage with 5:22 on the clock.
• The home team led by as much as 23 (45-22), but Western New England sophomore guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored the final five points of the half to cut the Golden Bears' deficit to 18 (45-27) at the break.
• Gelineau drained a pair of free throws at the 16:12 mark of the second half to bring Western New England back to within 16 (51-35). The Golden Bears would get no closer, however, as the Camels answered with an 8-0 run and continued to pull away late.

Notes
• Gelineau's 19-point effort comes after the senior missed Western New England's last three contests.
• Freshman Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points off the bench.
• Western New England committed just 12 turnovers, its third-lowest total this season.
