McGuire leads Western New England with eight points and four rebounds off the bench
BOSTON, Mass. (January 5, 2017) – The Wentworth Institute of Technology used an 11-0 second half run to pull away from Western New England University on its way to a 70-48 victory this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at Tansey Gymnasium.
Top Performers
• Western New England freshman guard Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) recorded team-highs in both points (eight) and rebounds (four) in 19 minutes off the bench.
• Senior forward Daniel Silva (Seekonk, Mass.) finished with seven points and dished out a team-high five assists.
• Junior Ben Kizel (Short Hills, N.J.) led three Leopards in double-figures with 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting to go with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• Freshman Matt Vartanian (Salem, N.H.) totaled ten points while grabbing seven rebounds.
Game Review
• Following a layup by Silva that knotted the score at 2-2 just under three minutes into the contest, Wentworth put together a 15-0 run to take a 17-2 lead with 11:43 left in the half.
• Western New England began to chip away at its deficit, however, pulling to within four (31-27) on a McGuire three-pointer with 2:18 on the clock.
• Wentworth scored the final four points of the half and took an eight-point lead (35-27) into the break.
• The Golden Bears trailed by the same margin (43-35) at the 14:39 mark of the second half after McGuire knocked down 1-of-2 free throws, but Wentworth pulled away with an 11-0 run over the next 3:11 to extend its lead to 19 (54-35).
• Western New England was unable to recover from the decisive run as the Leopards extended the final margin to 22.

• Western New England shot 36.5% (19-of-52) from the field, while Wentworth posted a 48% (24-of-50) shooting clip.
• The Leopards outrebounded the Golden Bears 43-24 and scored 28 points off 22 Western New England turnovers.
