Western New England’s Season Comes to a Close with 84-72 Loss to Endicott

Sophomore Mikey Pettway leads Golden Bears with team-high 28 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals

BEVERLY, Mass. (February 18, 2017) – The Western New England University men's basketball team wrapped up its 2016-17 campaign with an 84-72 loss to Endicott College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Top Performers
• Sophomore guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears with a team-high 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• In his final collegiate contest, graduate guard Luis Agrait (South Hadley, Mass.) recorded 12 points, five boards, three assists and one steal. 

• Senior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) led four Gulls in double figures with a team-high 19 points to go with five rebounds and two assists.
• Senior guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) added 17 points, five assists and four boards, while senior forward Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.) posted a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Game Review
• Endicott opened the game with an 8-0 run, fueled by five points from Sampson, forcing a Western New England timeout 2:10 into the contest.
• The Gulls extended their lead into double figures on a pair of Sampson free throws just over a minute later, but the Golden Bears answered with a 10-0 run to pull to within one (15-14) at the 13:55 mark.
• Endicott began to build its lead back up after that point, using three-pointers from Sampson and Walker to open up a 28-20 advantage midway through the frame.
• A trey by senior forward Daniel Silva (Seekonk, Mass.) with 1:42 remaining had the Golden Bears back to within three (37-34), before Walker scored four straight points heading into the half to give the Gulls a 41-34 lead at the break.
• A 5-0 run to open the second half, which included a Walker three-pointer, allowed Endicott to stretch its lead back to 12 (46-34) with 17:50 on the clock.
• The Golden Bears, who trailed by the same margin after a Walker jumper with 8:05 remaining, put together an 8-0 run with the help of triples from senior guard Mike Gelineau (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman guard Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) to get back to within four (64-60) with 6:21 left in the contest.
• Western New England was unable to close the gap, however, as Endicott pulled away down the stretch to secure the win.

Notes
• Western New England, which shot 40.6% (28-of-69) from the field, connected on just 6-of-27 three-point attempts (22.2%).
• Gelineau and Silva finished with seven and five points, respectively, in their final collegiate contests.
• Endicott held a 41-36 rebounding advantage.

Western New England's season comes to a close at 6-19 (4-14 CCC), while Endicott (20-5, 15-3 CCC) will open the CCC Tournament at home on Tuesday.
