Wentworth Edges Western New England on Senior Day, 70-65

Pettway leads four Golden Bears in double figures with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 4, 2017) – The Western New England University men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought, 70-65 decision to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on senior day this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Prior to the start of the contest, Western New England honored its two seniors, Mike Gelineau (Waltham, Mass.) and Daniel Silva (Seekonk, Mass.), and graduate student Luis Agrait (South Hadley, Mass.).

Top Performers
• Sophomore guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Golden Bears with a strong all-around performance, scoring a team-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe to go with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
• Gelineau had an 11-point game, going 3-of-5 from behind the arc, while grabbing five rebounds.
• Silva was also in double figures with ten points and four rebounds.

• Junior forward Jason Ganley (Northbridge, Mass.) led Wentworth with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line to go with four rebounds.
• Senior guard Dan DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
• Junior guard Ben Kizel (Short Hills, N.J.) rounded out Wentworth's double figure scorers with ten points and five rebounds.

Game Review
• Wentworth jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after a three-pointer by DeVaux. Western New England tied the score at 7-7 after Gelineau, who scored six of Western New England's first seven points, connected from beyond the arc.
• Wentworth, which held a slim lead for the majority of the first half, stretched its advantage to seven after Ganley converted a traditional three-point play with just under six minutes remaining. Two free throws by Ganley at the 5:29 mark stretched the Leopards' lead to nine, their largest of the half.
• Western New England finished the half strong by going on a 10-5 run, capped off by a layup by Pettway to tie the game at 35-35 heading into the break.
• The second half featured five different lead changes, while freshman Mike McCourt (Lincoln, R.I.) tied the game up at 48-48 with a made layup at the 11:19 mark.
• Over the next six minutes, the Leopards went on a 13-4 run to open up a 61-52 cushion. Western New England got within three after a triple by Silva with 21 seconds left, but Wentworth held on down the stretch to secure the win. 

Notes
• Western New England shot 38.1% (24-of-63) from the field, 31.8% (7-of-22) from three-point range, and 66.7% (10-of-15) from the free throw line.
• The Western New England bench outscored Wentworth's reserves 23-14.
• The Leopards out-rebounded the Golden Bears 46-31.
• Gelineau is now within 40 points of reaching the 1000-point mark for his Western New England career
