Norwalk, Conn. native averaged 19.3 points per game over three contests

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 5, 2018) –
Freshman guard EJ Day (Norwalk, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. 

Day averaged 19.3 points per game over three contests last week, and posted a pair of 20+ point efforts against CCC opponents.

Day opened the week with a 21-point performance against Endicott on Tuesday, shooting 8-of-13 from the field. He followed that up with nine points and three rebounds in a non-conference win over Dean on Thursday.

In Saturday's setback at Gordon, Day broke out for a season-high 28 points off the bench, as he shot 9-of-14 from the field to go with an 8-of-9 effort at the free throw line.

For the week, Day shot 52.6 percent (20-for-38) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-for-13) from the charity stripe.

In 20 games this season, Day is averaging 10.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. The Norwalk, Conn. native has scored in double figures 12 times, including eight of the last ten games.

Western New England (9-12, 5-9 CCC) travels to Curry on Wednesday night before hosting Nichols on Saturday afternoon.
