CCC Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 19, 2018) – Junior guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) and freshman forward Zach Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's basketball team were both recognized when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its major award winners and All-CCC selections on Monday afternoon.

Pettway earned All-CCC second team honors, while Tavitian was named the CCC Rookie of the Year.

An All-CCC third team honoree as a sophomore last season, Pettway continued to establish himself as one of the top players in the conference this winter.

The Bridgeport, Conn. native started all 25 games for the Golden Bears and averaged 19.3 points (7th in CCC), 5.7 assists (1st in CCC) and 5.0 rebounds per game (all career-highs).

He scored a career-high 38 points in an overtime victory at then-No. 21 ranked Nichols College on January 6, and also posted a 36-point effort against Dean on February 1.

Pettway accomplished a career milestone in Western New England's 101-83 triumph over Gordon College on January 18, as he became the 23rd member of the program's 1,000-point club with his game-high 31 points.

Pettway reached double-figures in all 25 games this season with 13 20+ point performances. He grabbed 5+ rebounds on 12 occasions and handed out 5+ assists 17 times.

Tavitian earns Rookie of the Year accolades after making a significant impact during his first year at Western New England.

The Milford, Conn. native started all 25 games and averaged 12.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game for the Golden Bears.

Tavitian scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting against Springfield College in his collegiate debut on November 15, and he didn't slow down from there.

The freshman forward posted his first career double-double with 29 points, ten rebounds and three blocks at UNE on January 13, before turning in another double-double effort (15 points, 13 rebounds) at Wentworth on February 13.

Tavitian has been named the CCC Rookie of the Week on four occasions this season.

Western New England (11-14, 7-11 CCC) will be on the road at top-seeded Nichols College in the quarterfinal round of the CCC Tournament on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
