Softball Sweeps Roger Williams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 14, 2021) – The Western New England University softball team swept Roger Williams in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Golden Bear Softball Park.

Game 1: Western New England 4, Roger Williams 3
Junior Dina DiBlasio and sophomore Kailey Carrano each hit one home run for the Golden Bears. Sophomore Megan Beebe went the distance to grab the win.

Taylor Howell hit a home run for the Hawks.

Bay Naples hit a two-run double to center field in the top of the first inning to give the Hawks the lead. Western New England tied it up in the bottom of the first after an RBI double from first-year Kaleigh Blades and an RBI single from DiBlasio.

Carrano gave the Golden Bears the lead in the bottom of the fourth with her home run. Howell hit her home run for the Hawks in the top of the sixth to tie the game. In the next half inning, DiBlasio hit her home run to give Western New England a 4-3 lead.

Game 2: Western New England 4, Roger Williams 1
First-year Madison Mason led the Golden Bears with two hits and three RBI's. Senior Paige Uliase pitched a complete game, allowed only one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Maddie Predaris, Francesca Cioffi, and Michaela Federico each had a hit. 

Western New England jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Mason hit a two-run single up the middle. Mason picked up another RBI in the top of the third when she singled down the left field line to go up 3-0. Sophomore Ines Baez Flores singled later in the inning to send Carrano across the plate.
