Softball Sweeps Curry

MILTON, Mass. (April 23, 2021) – The Western New England University softball team swept Curry 8-4 and 5-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Friday afternoon.

Game 1: Western New England 8, Curry 4
Sophomore Cori Rizzo had two hits for the Golden Bears, including a home run. Junior Dina DiBlasio and sophomore Lexie Hemstock each had two hits. Senior Paige Uliase went the distance to earn her sixth win of the year.

Alexis Buckner and Jordan Perzan each had two hits for the Colonels.

The Colonels jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning. The Golden Bears got on the board in the third inning when DiBlasio hit a two-run single to cut the deficit to two. The Western New England offense exploded in the sixth inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run home run from Rizzo.
 

Game 2: Western New England 5, Curry 3
Rizzo led the Golden Bears in game two with two hits and one RBI while sophomore Kailey Carrano had two RBI.

Madison Schwartz had two hits for the Colonels.

Western New England carried the momentum into game two as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. An error from the Curry shortstop sent Hemstock across the plate while Rizzo scored later in the inning on a passed ball. Senior Emily Cooney scored in the second inning off an RBI single from Rizzo to push the lead to 3-0.

After Curry scored two to chip away at the lead, the Golden Bears extended their lead again in the top of the fourth when Carrano hit a RBI single to left field and then again in the fifth when sophomore Paige Baca hit a RBI single to right field.
