Softball Completes Weekend Sweep over Curry

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 24, 2021) – The Western New England University softball team grabbed two wins over Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Western New England 5, Curry 0
The Golden Bears hit four home runs. Junior Dina DiBlasio hit two homers while sophomores Cori Rizzo and Kailey Carrano each hit one. Sophomore Megan Beebe struck out seven batters.

Madison Schwartz hit a triple for the Colonels.

Rizzo and DiBlasio each homered in the first inning to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead. DiBlasio and Carrano homered in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Rizzo hit a RBI double in the fourth inning.

Game 2: Western New England 3, Curry 2 (8 innings)
DiBlasio, Rizzo, and first-year Madison Mason each had one hit and one RBI for the Golden Bears.

Alexis Buckner and Taylor McDermott each had one hit and one RBI for the Colonels.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth, when Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly to get the Golden Bears on the board. After Curry went up 2-1, DiBlasio tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when she singled up the middle to send first-year Kaleigh Blades across the plate. Mason hit a walkoff RBI bunt in the eighth for the win.
