Golden Bears Open Florida Trip with 13-8 Loss to Rowan

Canning leads Western New England with team-high four goals

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team opened the second half with four straight goals on its way to a 13-8 victory over Western New England University this morning in non-conference action at the National Training Center.

Top Performers
• Junior Rachel Canning (Lincoln Park, N.J.) led the way for the Golden Bears with a team-high four goals, two of which came on free position shots.  
• Junior Lauren Hurley (St. James, N.Y.) scored her fifth goal of the season while collecting two ground balls.

• Sophomore Taylor Gretz (Woolwich Township, N.J.) paced Rowan with a game-high five points (four goals, one assist), to go with six draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
• Sophomore Liz Kramer (Mullica Hill, N.J.) added four points (three goals, one assist), while senior Ali Herbert (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) scored twice and secured a game-high nine draw controls.

Game Review
• Rowan led 5-1 midway through the first half, before Canning netted consecutive goals to bring the Golden Bears back to within two.
• Later in the half, Western New England used a 3-0 run with goals from junior Julia Winer (Longmeadow, Mass.), Hurley and Canning to tie the score at 6-6.
• Rowan, which took a 7-6 lead into the half after Gretz found the back of the net with 1:12 on the clock, opened the second period with four consecutive goals, claiming an 11-6 advantage with 15:35 remaining.
• Freshman Kaitlyn Hutter (Stamford, Conn.) snapped Western New England's drought at the 10:41 mark and graduate midfielder Emma Norden (Belchertown, Mass.) scored with 4:27 remaining, but the Golden Bears were unable to recover from Rowan's decisive run earlier in the half.

Notes
• Rowan outshot Western New England 36-13 (29-11 SOG) and held a 20-3 advantage in draw controls.
• The Golden Bears picked up 25 ground bals, while the Profs collected 21.
• Following her four-goal performance, Canning leads Western New England with 14 this season.
