Western New England Shines in Year-End NCAA Division III Statistics Report

INDIANAPOLIS--The Western New England University women's volleyball team ended up in the top-25 percent of eight categories in the last NCAA Division III statistics report that was released in December. There are 430 institutions that sponsor women's volleyball in the NCAA's largest classification.

The Golden Bears finished 29th nationally with 2.54 service aces per set, which was good for second in the Commonwealth Coast Conference behind Gordon College's 2.64 clip. As a team, WNE was also was 65th in winning percentage at .735 after going 25-9 this fall; 95th with 10.92 assist average; and 101st in both attack percentage (.196) and kill-average (11.81).

Junior All-America defensive specialist and 2013 CCC Libero of the Year Grace Kucharski (Avon [Conn.] High School) ranked 67th in the nation and first in the conference with 5.04 digs per set, breaking her own school single-season record of 586 digs in the process. She racked up 60 aces--just one behind team leader and classmate Kendra Ouimette--to help WNE become one of the nation's formidable serving teams.

Fifth-year senior Devyn Frank, a New England Women's Volleyball Association Senior Classic All-Star and two-time all-CCC first team standout from Mystic, Conn. (Fitch HS), placed 60th with a .332 hitting percentage.

Ouimette, a defensive specialist out of Conway, Mass. (Frontier Regional HS), and freshman setter Jessica Sincero from Verplanck, N.Y. (Hendrick Hudson HS), ranked 107th and 126th with 0.54 and 0.53 aces per set, respectively.
