Top Moment #8 of 2013-14: Volleyball's back-to-back ECAC New England championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University women's volleyball team capturing its second Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England championship in a row last fall is the No. 8 moment/story of the 2013-14 academic year for Western New England Athletics.

After claiming its first postseason title of any kind in 2012, WNE Volleyball repeated the feat in 2013 by defeating University of New England, 3-0, in the first round, Endicott College, 3-0, in the semifinals and Smith College, 3-2, in the ECAC Championship. Western New England's Kasey Cameron was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Golden Bears Volleyball is just the second women's sport at WNE to earn multiple regional titles and in consecutive seasons no less. Women's Lacrosse was crowned ECAC New England champions in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

The Golden Bears' program has been on a resurgence since head coach Bret Stothart took over the reins in 2011. After a 15-15 record in his first season (a 5-win improvement from a 10-20 finish in 2010), Stothart has established WNE's first- and second-highest winning percentages of .781 (25-7 in 2012) and .735 (25-9 in 2013) in its history--producing back-to-back 25-win campaigns for another milestone.
