Western New England Opens Season With Seventh Place Finish at Roger Williams Invitational

Junior Meagan Dias leads Golden Bears with 13th place finish

BRISTOL, R.I. (September 2, 2017) – The Western New England University women's cross country team opened its season with a seventh place finish at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday morning at Colt State Park.

The Golden Bears totaled 154 points en route to their seventh place effort in the nine-team field. Salve Regina finished first with 70 points, while Roger Williams (75) and Simmons (88) took second and third, respectively.

Top Performers
• Sophomore Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) led the way for Western New England, finishing 13th in the 95-individual field with a time of 13:06 on the two-mile course.
• Making her collegiate debut, freshman Greer Hanley (Woodbury, Conn.) was the second Golden Bear to cross the finish line with a time of 13:31, good for 24th overall.
• Senior Kathleen Silveira (Plainfield, Conn.) placed 26th and posted a time of 13:37.

Also Scoring for Western New England
• Junior Kaitlin Armstrong (Bolton, Conn.) and freshman Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) finished 59th and 60th, respectively, clocking in with times of 14:27 and 14:28.
