Western New England Wraps Up Season with 38th Place Finish at NCAA New England Regional Championship

Dias paces Golden Bears with 104th place finish in 23:23.9

GORHAM, Maine (November 11, 2017) –
The Western New England University women's cross country team wrapped up its 2017 season on Saturday with a 38th place finish at the NCAA New England Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Maine at Gorham Country Club. 

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 1080, good for 38th in the 56-team field. MIT placed three runners inside the top ten en route to the team title, while Tufts and Williams finished second and third, respectively. Coast Guard freshman Kaitlyn Mooney won the individual title with a time of 20:22.6 on the six-kilometer course.

Top Performers
• Junior Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.), an All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) performer two weekends ago, was the first Golden Bear to cross the finish line with a time of 23:23.9, good for 104th in the 393-runner field.
• Freshman Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) placed 187th and clocked in at 24:30.3.
• Senior Kathleen Silveira (Plainfield, Conn.) finished 249th with a time of 25:19.3.
• Freshmen Makayla Kinnie (Griswold, Conn.) and Greer Hanley (Woodbury, Conn.) placed 272nd and 286th, respectively, earning times of 25:40.5 and 25:53.7.
