Golden Bears Place Eighth at Smith Invitational
Hanley paces Golden Bears, finishing 35th in 22:09
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (September 9, 2017) – The Western New England University women's cross country team turned in an eighth place finish on Saturday at the Smith College Invitaitonal.
The Golden Bears posted a score of 197 to finish eighth in the nine-team field. Amherst College took the team title with a score of 28, while Westfield State (83) and Franklin Pierce (93) placed second and third, respectively.
Top Performers
• Freshman Greer Hanley (Woodbury, Conn.) paced Western New England with a 35th-place finish in the 95-runner field with a time of 22:09.1 on the five-kilometer course.
• Senior Kathleen Silveira (Plainfield, Conn.) crossed the finish line one spot after Hanley in 36th with a time of 22:09.5.
• Junior Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) placed 39th and clocked in at 22:15.6.
Also Scoring for Western New England
• Freshman Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) earned a time of 23:04.2, good for 56th overall, while sophomore Edelinda Baptista (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed 65th in 23:33.
