Gordon Uses First Half Goal to Top Western New England, 1-0

Klesyk records four shots on goal in loss

WENHAM, Mass. (September 29, 2018) – A first half goal by junior forward Sabrina Jandreau (Winslow, Maine) was enough to lift the Gordon College field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Western New England University on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

Top Performers
Western New England freshman forward Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.) put all four of her shots on target, while senior Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.) and freshman Ali Martin (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded two shots each.

Jandreau provided the Fighting Scots all of the offense they would need with the help of an assist from freshman Cara Goudie (Wenham, Mass.).

Game Review
The Golden Bears outshot the Fighting Scots 5-3 in the first half, but Jandreau's goal in the 29th minute off a penalty corner had Gordon ahead at the break.

Western New England, which fired three shots on goal in the first half, put three more on target over the final 35 minutes of play, but Gordon junior goalkeeper Julia Altman (Hopkinton, Mass.) stopped every attempt she faced to earn the shutout.

Notes
• Western New England held an 8-7 edge in penalty corners in addition to the Golden Bears' 10-7 shot advantage.
• Senior goalkeeper Dana Dufour (Gloucester, Mass.) made four saves for the Golden Bears.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, as Western New England (2-8, 2-3 CCC) returns home to face Nichols and Gordon (4-8, 1-4 CCC) hosts Roger Williams.
