Strong Second Half Pushes Salve Regina Past Western New England, 7-4

Seahawks outscore Golden Bears 3-0 in second half

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 10, 2018) - The Western New England University field hockey team fell to Salve Regina University 7-4 in Commenwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday night at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
The Golden Bears offense was paced by freshman Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.) who had two goals and one assist. Junior Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Ali Martin (South Windsor, Conn.) also contributed goals of their own.

In the cage, senior goalkeeper Dana Dufour (Glouchester, Mass.) saved eight of the 15 shots sent her way.

Salve Regina received a four-goal performance from junior Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), two goals from freshman Eliza Timms (Agawam, Mass.),  and one goal from junior Vanessa Frost (North Attleboro, Mass.).

Senior goalkeeper Ally Daly (Peabody, Mass.) had seven saves for the Seahawks.

Game Review
Salve Regina wasted no time with their offense as the Seahawks scored in the opening minute of play. Cody attempted a shot that Dufour saved, but the junior corralled her miss and put it in to make the score 1-0.

At the 5:12 mark, the Golden Bears would benefit from a ricocheted shot that Klesyk tapped in to tie the game at 1-1. Three minutes later, Clark sent one in the back of the cage to put Western New England ahead, 2-1.

With 18 minutes remaining in the half, Salve's Tori Bickel (Harleysville, Pa.) used a strong slapshot to even the score at 2-2.

The Seahawks would then jump ahead 3-2, at the 20:44 mark, as Timms entered the ball to Cody, who finished the play.

The Golden Bears collected back-to-back goals from Klesyk and Martin to take the lead back 4-3, but Salve's Cody ended the half with another strike, tying the game at 4-4.

In the second half, Salve pulled away with a pair of goals from Timms and one from Cody, while the Western New England offense was limited to three shots in the period.

• Klesyk's five points represents her highest total this season. 
• Salve Regina outshot Western New England 17-13, including 8-3 in the second half.
