Golden Bears Defeat Westfield State 3-1 for Third Straight Victory

Felice records goal & assist for Western New England

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2018) – The Western New England University field hockey team extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Westfield State University on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Top Performers
Senior midfielder Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.) factored into two of Western New England's three goals, as she scored one herself and assisted on another.

Senior Halle Harvey (Millers Falls, Mass.) and freshman Ali Larochelle (New Boston, N.H.) also scored for the Golden Bears, while juniors Jessica Clifford (Auburn, Mass.) and Megan Sweeney (Sutton, Mass.) recorded one defensive save each.

Westfield State's lone goal came courtesy of freshman Allie Giguere (Lynn, Mass.) late in the second half.

Game Review
Felice staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead just over 22 minutes into the contest when she scored on a feed from Clifford.

With seven minutes left in the half, Western New England doubled its advantage when Felice sent the ball into a scrum in front of the net which Harvey collected and fired a shot past Westfield State goalkeeper Riley Goulet (Marion, Mass.).

Midway through the second half, the Golden Bears tacked on another goal, this time off the stick of Larochelle.

Late in regulation, Giguere corralled a rebound and got the Owls on the board with her eighth goal of the season.

Notes
• The Golden Bears outshot the Owls 15-9 and held a 6-3 edge in penalty corners.
• Western New England's three-game winning streak is its longest this season.
