Harvey scores first goal of season in loss
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 6, 2018) – The Western New England University field hockey team surrendered three second half goals in a 4-1 loss to the University of New England on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.
Top Performers
Senior forward Halle Harvey (Millers Falls, Mass.) scored Western New England's lone goal late in the first half.
The Nor'easters were led by junior forward Kendra MacDonald (Lebanon, N.H.), who registered a hat trick. Freshman midfielder Jillian Lachapelle (Gilford, N.H.) also found the back of the cage for UNE.
Game Review
MacDonald got the visitors on the board with an unassisted goal just over six minutes into the contest.
With five minutes remaining in the half, the Golden Bears equalized on Harvey's first goal of the season. Following a penalty corner, junior Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) fired a shot toward the cage and Harvey deflected it past UNE sophomore goalie Liz Sargent (South Burlington, Vt.) to tie the score 1-1.
Just under four minutes into the second half, MacDonald scored her second goal of the game on a feed from junior Sydney Liptak (Westfield, Mass.) to put the Nor'easters back in front, 2-1.
MacDonald completed her hat trick at the 40:13 mark, before Lachapelle added an insurance tally in the 49th minute to cap the scoring.
Notes
• Western New England was outshot 17-5. The visitors also held a 12-3 advantage in penalty corners.
• Senior Dana Dufour (Gloucester, Mass.) made all three of her saves in the second half.
