Hanley, Gamba & Catuosco Honored by CCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 3, 2023) – Western New England men's lacrosse earned three student-athletes to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly athletes of the week list, seeing Dylan Hanley, Anthony Gamba, and Chris Catuosco earn weekly awards, as announced by the conference office today. 

Senior Dylan Hanley picked up his second CCC Offensive Player of the Week of the season, leading WNE to a 2-1 week, which included two CCC wins. Hanley scored four goals and added six assists for the Golden Bears in a 24-10 win over Roger Williams University which also included scooping three ground balls and causing one turnover. In the midweek defeat at No. 8 Amherst College, Hanley found the back of the net twice while also picking up on assist to grab three points on the night. Hanley would collect three additional ground balls while causing another turnover while taking four shots, two on goal. The New Fairfield, Connecticut native finished the week with a statement at the University of New England, grabbing a career 11 points in the game, six goals and five assists to lead WNE to a 18-9 win. Hanley scooped three ground balls and caused one turnover while taking a career best 11 shots, ten on goal. Hanley leads the Golden Bears in points this season (52) and assists (27) and is second on the team in goals (25). Hanley has collected 31 ground balls on the year while causing eight turnovers and taken 59 shots, putting 45 on goal. 

Senior Anthony Gamba picked CCC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the blue and gold in caused turnovers on the week and holding down the defensive side of the ball. Gamba grabbed eight ground balls for the Golden Bears in the two-win week while collecting four caused turnovers. The Oyster Bay, New York native has made starts in all ten games this season for the Golden Bears. 

First Year Chris Catuosco was dominate in the faceoff circle this week, earning CCC Specialist of the Week. In the 24-10 win over Roger Williams, Catuosco went 14/19 on faceoffs while scooping eight ground balls and taking two shots, one on goal. Catuosco won over half his faceoffs against No. 8 Amherst College, going 9/16 in the circle while scooping two ground balls. Catuosco put together his best performance of the season against University of New England, grabbing his first career assist while going 11/13 on faceoffs, grabbing ten ground balls, a career best. On the season, Catuosco has won 88 faceoffs on 144 attempts, a 61% success rate. The First Year has scooped 57 ground balls on the season while causing one turnover. 

Western New England men's lacrosse will be home for two conference games this week, hosting Curry College on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00 PM while also hosting CCC opponent Wentworth Institute on Saturday, April 8 for a 1:00 PM game.
