Women’s Basketball Downs Gordon, 60-46

WENHAM, Mass. (January 7, 2020) – The Western New England University women's basketball team continued their undefeated start to 2020 by defeating Gordon, 60-46, in CCC action on Tuesday evening at the Bennett Center.

Top Performers
Senior forward Courtney Carlson (Woodbury, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears with 21 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Senior guard Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) added 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

The Fighting Scots were led by senior Meghan Foley (Malden, Mass.), who scored 19 points. Freshman Olivia Gagnon (Pelham, N.H.) scored 14 points for Gordon.

Game Review
The start of the game was back and forth between Western New England and Gordon, with both teams exchanging leads. With a 10-9 lead with under four minutes left in the quarter, the Golden Bears went on an 8-0 scoring-run to take a 17-10 lead. Carlson scored nine of her 21 points in the quarter.

Gordon cut the lead the Western New England lead to three points, 21-18, at the 5:41 mark in the second quarter off a 3-pointer by Gagnon. The Golden Bears outscored the Fighting Scots 13-4 over the rest quarter to take a 34-22 lead going into halftime. Sophomore guard Julia Quinn (Thomaston, Conn.) led the Golden Bears for the quarter with seven points.

The third quarter was an even battle, with each team scoring 12 points. Farrell scored eight of the team's points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer with 0:49 left to give the Golden Bears a 46-33 lead.

The Golden Bears would hold on to the lead throughout the fourth quarter. Western New England went up by 16 points, their largest lead of the night, off a layup by freshman guard Lindsey Carey (Greenfield, N.H.). Gagnon scored a layup with 0:14 seconds left, with the Golden Bears ultimately winning 60-46.

Notes
• Western New England is now 3-1 in CCC play this season.
• This is the third straight game in which Carlson has scored in double figures.

Up Next
Western New England (10-2) will play in their non-conference finale at WPI on Thursday evening. Gordon (7-5) will play at Endicott on Thursday evening.
