Women's Basketball Wins Big over Gordon, 75-52

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 5, 2020) – The Western New England University women's basketball team defeated Gordon, 75-52 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday night at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Top Performer
The Golden Bears were led by senior forward Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn) who scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Senior guard Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) added 12 points.

Senior guard Meghan Foley (Malden, Mass.) led the The Fighting Scots scoring 22 points, going 8-10 from the line.

Game Review
The Golden Bears took a quick 7-3 lead and didn't look back. The Fighting Scots brought it within one following a three from Foley. A layup from Farrell gave the Golden Bears their largest lead at 16-8. Western New England entered the second quarter leading 16-10.

Western New England dominated the second quarter taking a 20 point lead with 3:33 remaining in the quarter. The Golden Bears shot 52.9% from the field while holding the Fighting Scots to a dismal 4-16 shooting in the second quarter. A fastbreak layup by Farrell gave Western New England a 37-21 lead to close out the quarter.

The Golden Bears kept up their pace scoring 17 points in the third quarter. The Fighting Scots found a rhythm on offense scoring 15 points, getting seven from Foley. Both teams traded baskets throughout the quarter, last minute free throws from Farrell gave the Golden Bears a 54-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.

A 3-pointer by Orbann at the 5:33 mark gave the Golden Bears their largest lead of the game at 68-43. Western New England scored 21 points in the fourth, leading to a dominant 75-52 victory over Gordon.

• Western New England has won seven of their last eight contests.
Meghan Orbann is ten points shy of 1,000 career points.
