Women’s Basketball Takes Care of Business on Senior Day against University of New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 15, 2020) – The Western New England University women's basketball took down University of New England, 58-49, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Top Performers
Senior guard Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears with 19 points. Senior forward Courtney Carlson (Woodbury, Conn.) grabbed a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while senior forward Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) grabbed nine rebounds.

The Nor'easters were led by senior Ashley Coneys (Dover, N.H.), who scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. 

Game Review
The Nor'easters jumped out to an 8-0 lead early in the game. The Golden Bears stormed back, tying the game at 11-11 with under four minutes remaining in the quarter after a made jump shot from Farrell. The Golden Bears took their first lead of the night just a few minutes when Farrell made a 3-pointer to give Western New England a 16-15 lead.

After taking a five point lead into halftime, the Golden Bears pushed their lead to nine after a layup from Carlson gave Western New England a 33-24 lead shortly into the second half. A 3-pointer from Farrell with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter gave the Golden Bears a 39-26 lead.

University of New England fought back and took the lead when Coneys made a free throw to put the Nor'easters up 49-48 with 3:03 remaining. Western New England responded on the next possession, taking the lead on a layup from junior guard Lauren Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine). The Golden Bears finished the game on a 10-0 to win the battle between #1 and #2 in the CCC standings.

• Western New England sits in first place in the CCC standings with one game remaining.
• This is the 13th straight game in which Farrell has scored in double figures.
