Western New England Lands Three on All-CCC Teams as Chaszar & Orbann Earn Major Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 24, 2020) – Head coach Nicole Chaszar and three members of the Western New England University women's basketball team were honored when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its major award winners and All-CCC selections on Monday afternoon.

Chaszar was named CCC Coach of the Year for the first time in her career, while senior Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) earned the CCC Scholar-Athlete award. 

Senior guard Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) collected All-CCC first team honors, while Orbann and senior forward Courtney Carlson (Woodbury, Conn.) were voted to the All-CCC second team.

Chaszar has guided the Golden Bears to the CCC regular season title this season with a 14-2 league record (21-4 overall).

Orbann receives the Scholar-Athlete award for her combined performance on the field and in the classroom. A sport management & marketing major with a 3.78 cumulative grade point average, Orbann is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society and a two-time Academic All-CCC qualifier. 

Farrell received All-CCC first team honors for the second straight year. Farrell is averaging 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game this season. She has scored in double figures in 21 games this season, including the last 14 games. On February 11, Farrell scored her 1,000th career point in a 75-64 win over Nichols.

Orbann received All-CCC honors for the third straight year. Orbann is averaging 11.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season. On February 11, Orbann scored her 1,000th career point in a 75-64 win over Nichols.

Carlson received All-CCC honors for the first time in her career. Carlson is averaging 12.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season. Carlson's 47.7 field goal percentage is fifth in the conference. 

Western New England (21-4), which earned the top seed and hosting rights in the upcoming CCC Tournament, will open the playoffs at home against either Gordon or the University of New England at the Alumni Healthful Living Center on Thursday, February 27.
